Split to Paris to Boston

Traveling is always full of surprises! In a come from behind victory, our last location managed to blow us away with our breakfast option! We got coupons that we could use at the restaurant named Brasserie on 7, an adorable café on the Riva. We each ordered one item, eggs benedict, the french toast, the fruit plate, and a big breakfast. You know that a breakfast is fantastic when the server delivers it in a double decker serving tray! The french toast with fruit was amazing. The big breakfast was as advertised big and everything was fantastic. We couldn’t believe it but it actually beat the buffet in Trieste!

Our hotel had arranged a transfer and we finished our breakfast while Sue and the kids brought the bags down from the apartment and we were underway to the Split airport in a short 40 minute drive.

Navigating the airport was easy compared to the world’s worst airport – Stansted – as the route through the duty-free shopping was limited. Of course, our EasyJet flight was an hour delayed but it was not a problem as we had nearly 5 hours to make it from Paris Orly to Paris Charles de Gaulle.

We arrived around 2p, got our taxi and were at the Charles to go all airport by 3p. Plenty of time for our 6;30 departure, or so we thought.

Norwegian Airlines decided to strictly enforce the 11 kilo limit and our four carry on bags were 20 kg over, meaning we had to check a bag.

We relocated many of our items and after paying €80 and an hour after initially standing in line, we were finished with the check in process. Around us families and individuals were literally crying over the unexpected fees!

Tom‘s mom, Eva, had taken the bus to the airport for a quick visit and to deliver a few of Evie‘s items and some snacks for our flight. It was a wonderful addition as she was able to stay with the kids and our bags as Tom and Sue navigated the myriad of lines. Ultimately everything worked out just fine as our priority boarding allowed us to get comfortable and over had space on the 98% full flight to Boston.

Once on the plane everything was easy-peezy and we arrived exactly on time, whisked through passport control, and had one of the first bags off the carousel. Grandpa Richard picked us up shortly after that and we began the hour and a half long drive to the Cape.

Halfway down to the Cape, our phones all buzzed with the tornado warning and we began to experience the most torrential downpour of our lives! The roads were flooded with inches of water and at 35 miles an hour we were spraying water like a motor boat on a lake! Thank goodness I’m not driving!

We happily turned off at exit 6, glad to be out of the massive rain storm, and glad to have not experienced a tornado in route.

Tyler had fallen asleep along the way and by 11:30 all of us were in bed.

Traveling the world is fantastic. But being home and knowing that you don’t have anywhere to go for a few weeks is equally fantastic. That is especially true after you have pushed yourselves to the limit visiting five countries in four weeks.

Nothing brings a family together like traveling and we were all grateful to be with each other. Exhausted, we are all delighted to finally be at our second home – Cape Cod.
